The left hill lines up nicely with the sinister diagonal, which leads through a potential focal point on the upper left-the eye of the golden spiral. Note how the tops of the cliffs also line up nicely with the horizontal line through the focal point. The spiral begins at the right cliff, directing the eye to follow the spiral down and then up to the left. But again, as always, is the composition such that the viewer is encouraged to wander around the painting without exiting from it?
