"En plein air" 80 percent with studio touch-ups. Extensive use of straight edge tools such as a squeegee, Catalyst wedge and palette knife, plus brushes of course on site and in studio.The geological formations of the cliffs at Ghost Ranch lend themselves to abstraction considerations. 10x16, 1.6 aspect ratio, is near Golden Mean proportions (1.618...). This photo is closer to the color of the painting; an arlier version seemed to wash out any red.. See Archives for earlier photo.

I"En plein air" at the Santa Fe River, one of my favorite painting venues. Painted during the Spring run-oof when the water is most turbulent. The canvas proportions are near golden mean proportions, with the top of the waterfall intentionally near the polar point of the golden spiral, a spiral found throughout nature.

Painted at the edge near the popular Chama Overlook, but away from the traffic. I used a squeegee extensively, following the Expanded Dynamic Symmetry lines drawn in pencil on the panel with a superimposed golden spiral to guide me in the placement of important elements - to draw the viewer's eye around the canvas. I intend to continue with a series of such landscapes.

En plein air. Painted early on a Spring morning on the banks of the Santa Fe river, one of my favorite venues. Every spring at the beginning of the sow run off fro, the sangre de Cristo Mountains I run down to the river to paint. I enjoy listening to the water while dog walkers stroll by. The vertical format was new to me. Compare this with my other Santa Fe River paintings.
