15x22, Watercolor, NFS

Painted from a photograph taken at dawn at the top of a hill near the Cowles Mountain, the highest elevation in San Diego. A passer-by said, 'tectonic uplift' as the answer to a question raised by my grandson: how did the rocks get up here? Needless to say, I began an intense study of the geology of the region (emphasis on began). Tectonic uplift is the geologic uplift of Earth's surface that is attributed to plate tectonics. See Wikipedia for much more detail and explanation. Fascinating. Painted on Arches watercolor paper, rough, 300 lb.(gift to family)
